About UseThisAI.fyi

Testing hundreds of AI tools so you don't have to. One human. Real tests. No AI-written reviews.

Who Runs This Site

Hi, I'm Aion Ren — the researcher, tester, and writer behind UseThisAI.fyi. I've spent the last two years immersed in the AI tools landscape: testing products, reading documentation, joining beta programs, interviewing founders, and — most importantly — talking to real professionals about what actually works in their daily workflow.

I built this site because the AI tools market is chaotic. Every week brings dozens of new launches, most of them promising to "revolutionize" something. Professional review sites often just repackage press releases. Reddit threads go out of date within months. LinkedIn influencers promote tools they've used for 10 minutes. I wanted one place where every recommendation is backed by actual hands-on testing — not hype, not affiliate commissions, not guesswork.

This is a one-person operation. No AI-generated reviews (the irony), no outsourced research, no paid placements. Every tool you see recommended here — I've used it myself. If I haven't tested it, it's not on the site. Simple as that.

How I Test Every Tool

Every tool that makes it onto UseThisAI.fyi goes through the same rigorous evaluation process. No exceptions, no shortcuts. Here's exactly what I do:

  1. Sign up with a real account — No demos, no sales calls, no "request a trial." I go through the exact same onboarding flow you would. If the signup process is confusing or the free tier is too limited to evaluate, I note that in the review.
  2. Minimum 2 hours of active use — For simple tools (grammar checkers, image upscalers), 2 hours is enough to test core features. For complex platforms (CRM, code assistants, design suites), I spend 8-20+ hours across multiple sessions. I use the tool to complete real tasks — not just click around the dashboard.
  3. Test across 5 evaluation criteria: Ease of use (can a professional in the target field start using it productively within 30 minutes?), Output quality (does the AI produce reliable, professional-grade results consistently?), Feature completeness (are the core promises delivered, or are key features "coming soon"?), Value for money (is pricing fair relative to competitors and the time it saves?), and Privacy & data handling (what happens to your data — especially important for legal, medical, and HR tools).
  4. Cross-reference with real user feedback — I read Reddit threads (r/ArtificialIntelligence, r/MachineLearning, profession-specific subreddits), G2/Capterra reviews, Discord communities, and YouTube reviews from actual users. If the community consensus contradicts my experience, I investigate why.
  5. Re-test on major updates — AI tools evolve fast. When a tool releases a major feature update, pricing change, or UI redesign, I revisit it. Every review on this site includes a "Last Updated" date so you know how current the information is.
  6. Compare against 2-5 alternatives in the same category — No tool exists in isolation. I test the most popular alternatives and provide honest comparisons. Sometimes the conclusion is "this tool is good, but X does the same thing for half the price."

What We Offer

📚 In-Depth Guides

Step-by-step tutorials walking you through setup, configuration, and advanced usage for each AI tool. Not just "click this button" — we explain the why behind each feature.

💰 Pricing Transparency

Detailed pricing breakdowns across all plans, including hidden costs, usage limits, and whether the free tier is actually usable. We tell you when a "free" plan is really a trial.

✅ Honest Reviews

Balanced pros and cons based on hands-on testing. We don't sugarcoat limitations, and we never accept payment for positive reviews. Affiliate relationships are always disclosed.

🎯 Profession-Specific Curation

AI tools organized by what you actually do — not generic categories. A lawyer needs different tools than a marketer. We respect that, and our recommendations reflect it.

Why Trust This Site

No pay-to-play. We never accept payment for reviews, ratings, or placement. Tool providers cannot buy their way onto this site or influence their ranking. If a tool is listed, it earned its place through testing.

Affiliate transparency. Some links on this site are affiliate links — if you sign up through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Every affiliate relationship is clearly marked. Affiliate status has zero influence on our ratings or recommendations.

We prioritize your profession, not our commissions. In several categories, we recommend fewer tools than our competitors — not because we're lazy, but because only a handful met our standards. We would rather list two tools we trust than twenty tools we haven't properly tested.

Updated continuously. The AI landscape changes monthly. We track updates across all recommended tools and refresh reviews when things change. The "Last Updated" date on every review tells you exactly when it was last verified. Our goal: no review older than 6 months without a re-check.

Human-tested, human-written. Every word on this site was written by a person who actually used the tool. We use AI tools extensively — but we don't use them to write our reviews. The irony of AI-generated AI tool reviews is not lost on us.

I typically respond within 48 hours. If you're a tool founder requesting a review, please include details about your free tier or trial access — I don't review tools I can't test properly.
